June News for A Cozy Death Book Club
We can’t wait for Misty Simon to speak to the club. The last time she spoke to us she had been working on her Tallie Graver series. Now she has more series that have been published. Please pick any one of her books to read. You won’t be sorry. Misty writes engaging, clever, and amusing characters and plots. They’re the kind of read that makes you want more than one cup of tea and a bit longer without interruption so you can finish the book. Join us on the 22nd for a lovely hour with friends.
Last month we read Inspector Singh Investigates. We had a good time discussing the book and then playing Geography. Some of you are mavens of the globe. You knew a country for every letter of the alphabet and more. Kudos to all who played and thank you to all who attended. The prize was mailed to the winners.
Next month we meet on the 27th. The book for July is Danielle Collins Murder by the Sea. It’s a good one. Now I have to read more Danielle Collins’s books. Oh my, Amazon I’m on my way. The “clicking” finger is getting excited. (It’s true about buying the books. I really should take them out of the library, but I love to keep the book if I’ve enjoyed it. What’s a girl with a bookshelf to do?).
Please join our blog. We’ve added a section called Interviews. We already have one on the Interview page. Click on it and enjoy the author Anna A. Armstrong. Tahlia and I are planning more interviews. We’d love to call them podcasts, but we’re not quite experienced enough in the podcasting world, thus we’re calling it interviews. We can’t put them on the Meetup site since the platform doesn’t have a place for it. The blog will come to you automatically if you sign up and we do invite you to write for the blog. We certainly don’t want to be the only contributors. Send a few paragraphs about books you’ve enjoyed (or not) and we’ll post it.
Books I’m Reading
Right now I’m reading Dandy Gilver and a Bothersome Number of Corpses by Catriona McPherson. The book features Dandy Gilver who is sent to check out what happened to one of three sisters, Fleur. Arora and Pearl suspect that their sister, Fleur, is in trouble because they haven’t heard from her in a long while. Apparently, Fleur works at a private girls’ school. Dandy Gilver and a Bothersome Number of Corpses is the seventh novel in Catriona McPherson's popular Dandy Gilver series, a cozy mystery set in 1920s Scotland. I’m enjoying it so far and haven’t cheated and looked at the end to see “who did it.”
The other book that I’m reading is Carolyn Hart’s Escape from Paris. It’s not a cozy but is historical fiction. It sounded good to me, and the author is familiar from the cozies that she’s known for (Death on Demand). This novel is about 2 sisters who are in Paris and trying to save a British airman from the Nazis. Escaping, maintaining a courageous attitude, and enduring through Nazi occupied Paris makes for a very suspenseful novel. I’m glad that I decided to branch out.
TBR
I have so many books on my TBR list, but I’ll list just a few. The Sisters by Mary S. Lovell is about the Mitford sisters. Quite honestly I’ve always been fascinated by them and can’t wait for the newest television saga about them. I’ve promised myself that I’ll finish reading the other two above this so that I can get to this book!
Detective Aunty by Uzma Jalaluddin is another novel, this time a cozy, that I’ve got on my TBR list. It’s an international cozy and takes place in Canada. This one has a lot of humor and love for her community.
Seams Like the Perfect Crime by Lois Winston is another book waiting anxiously to be read. I wonder if my books talk to each other when they’re piled up. “Hurry you silly woman, I’m waiting for you to hold me and turn pages” is what I imagine they’re saying. This is an Anastasia Pollack crafting mystery so should be fun to read.
Agatha Christie’s N or M is also on my list. I have to finish it by the end of June. I better get to work with my reading. This one takes place during WWII and is adapted as a Tommy and Tuppence mystery.
This is a mere sample of what’s waiting for me. And, to boot, my favorite spy novel is about to come out July 15th. Everyone who knows me knows that I love Daniel Silva books. I have to clear the decks to get ready for my annual spy fest.
Enjoy and keep reading!
