March 2026 Newsletter

Dear Cozy Mystery Book Readers,

Now that Bridgerton started its second half of Season 4 I feel as if I should use the salutation: Dear Gentle Readers, but it’s the program’s and I won’t borrow it.

By the way, Tahlia and I talked seriously and we think that publishing the newsletter with information about the month makes more sense for the first of the month while the blog can be published on the 10th. Book Reviews will be published on the 15th. Let us know what you think.

February’s meeting was chock full of Victorianna. We discussed the novel A Study in Murder by Callie Hutton and had a rip roaring time trying to figure out why brandy was used for so many and so much. I pointed out that in Sherlock Holmes stories Dr. Watson gives people brandy for every little and big ailment -- one breaks a leg -- have a drink of brandy, one falls off a horse -- have a drink of brandy, one’s fiancé has disappeared -- have a drink of brandy. Apparently, in Victorian times, we all agreed, brandy had amazing effects. After our fun discussion we played our Victoriana game. We played on Kahoot set up by Tahlia. We’ll have to use that program more often. It works well with multiple choice questions. We had three winners, one the grand winner, for the game: Jaspreet, Waslynna, and Maureen. Their prizes are on the way.

Our next meeting is March 22nd. We’ll be working with the novel Death in Brittany by Jean Luc Bannelec. It’s available on Amazon, and other venues, as well as in the library. The novel is full of descriptions of a particular region of Brittany and now I’m desperate to go there. Please attend on Zoom at 2:00 p.m. PDT (at 3:00 p.m. for Arizona MST, 4:00p.m. CDT, 5:00p.m. EDT, and 10:00 p.m. BST). We send out the link the Friday before the meeting. I promise, the meetings are fun and not formal at all. There are quite a few holidays in March and I think that the 22nd date manages to avoid most of them.

Then in April (the 26th) we have Landis Wade coming to our group to meet with us on Zoom. He hails from North Carolina. His book, Deadly Gold Rush: an Indie Retirement Mystery is set to publish this month and is free on Kindle right now, so hop to it A Cozy Death Mystery Book Club reader. What a deal! The book “features retirees Harriet Keaton, Craig Travail, and Yeager Alexander investigating a murder connected to a historic Charlotte gold rush, a missing fortune, and a decades-old family secret to clear Harriet's brother. The mystery involves rare gold coins, a shady developer, and the future of the Independence Retirement Community.” We’d like you all to attend. Let’s surprise Landis.

I am going to make a promise that I will be posting on Instagram and Facebook more often. Each is under “acozydeath.com” and terribly neglected by me. It’s my embarrassment and one of my promises to myself for the rest of the year, made in March, since I completely messed up my promises for the New Year’s made in January. Fingers crossed, this promise will stick.

If you’ve read my novel, Unprincipaled Death, I’d love a review on Amazon.

Now, back to Bridgerton gentle readers!

            Fondly,

            Karin Diskin
